I will have a somewhat drawn out hatch this month. I set 11-Buff Orpingtons on the 12th, 12-Barred Rock on the 13th, and 15-Lavender Orpingtons on the 14th. No sleep for the wicked at the end of the month...Now to start stock piling the DVR and the Kindle. Still looking for a remote to fast forward to hatch day.
Yea iam likethat the next 3 weeks really gotta be on top of whats next.
Hope I lock down the irght eggs!

Here is our little "flock"! Momma Nell (Australorp x) 4 light sussex chickies and Aunty Penelope (hi line) We will be keeping one of the female chicks - hoping one is female!
I decided to remove the final un-hatched egg today - no sound, no pips, nothing.
Next time Nell gets broody we hope to find some Araucana/Easter Egger eggs locally here in Adelaide - otherwise we will have some shipped in from interstate.
What a wonderful experience this has been. Thank you everyone for sharing your hatches.
Congratulations to all the new peeps out there and my thoughts are with those who have lost little ones in and out of their eggs x
Are the chicks really that white the light sussex? LOVE IT!!!

So this will be REALLY interesting Cant wait now for day10 to see whats up!
Checked my fridge and with carton closed its 4 celcius which is 39,2 F so not freezing so not ideal 55 but maybe doable

Well... I'm back for my updates and chickie-doodle fix. Love all the pictures.

My teenage son had his last bowling meet this morning. They took 2013 season champions! :) Going to regional next weekend! Ok, proud momma...

On to the "momma hen" part of me. I am going to be IN TROUBLE! DH, the kids, & I just stopped at our local farm store & found out they're getting their chicks in on Wednesday!!! EEK! DH says we should limit it to only 4 new ones... but I already have 6 picked out in my head and I haven't even seen them yet! I have a Lt. Brahma rooster but no lt.brahma hens! So I have 2 light brahma pullets on my mental list, 1 isa brown, 1 leghorn, 1 americauna, and 1 amber link. The amber link are new for them this year, so I figured I would try them. We'll be retiring our isa brown and leghorn this fall, and they're really good egg layers, so I wanted to replace them. How can I limit this down to only 4 chicks? I don't think it's possible! Anybody see a way? No, I couldn't find one either. LOL.

Good thing DH doesn't know my spring hatching plan yet or he'd never cave on the 6 chicks. I'd love to get some eggs from a few select BYC members. I'd like BCM eggs, and really good white silkie eggs (to increase the beauty and bloodline of the silkies we already have).

DH did agree to hatch out some duck eggs already though... Yahoo. Not sure where we're going to put ducks yet. ...or the turkeys, or the meat chickens... or the... ...you get the idea. :)
LOL!! its easier to ask forgiveness than it is permission!!

I say get the chickies!!!

I have a light brahma pullet, Fancy, she is so weird, lol, she makes noises only an alien could understand! she has had goofy chatter since she was a day old!

congrats to your baby boy on winning the championship!! that is awesome!!! My proud momma moment was when me and my 5 year old daughter sat in the blistering cold for 3 hours today and she sold 90 boxes of girl scout cookies, alone!!

I seen the baby ducks at TSC this week...and yeah...Im gonna need to hatch some!! LOL!!!

DAY 10!!! This is what I had at day 5:

and this is what I have at day 10:

out of what is left I have 13 with clear little chickies swimming all over the place! 14 are too dark to see anything at all, and 2 I suspect are quitters, but I am giving it til the 17th day now.

I just chucked 7. 2 were BAD blood rings, thick, and sad looking. 4 were infertile I am sure, and 1 looked scrambled.

so, if even HALF of the dark ones are chickies moving and I cant see them that gives me 20 out of 48 eggs....BUT, a DOZEN of those eggs were ALL infertile I think...so not too shabby for my first go...of course...never count your chickens before they hatch!!
