FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

so it sounds like i have babies coming from my broody!! every egg i've candled there is always a really nice air sac on the right end a a big black blob in it! so i'm assuming that i have very fertile eggs!! i eat my own eggs all the time and also give a cracked egg to my other animals at least once a week, always has a bullseye-big ones on the yolk. the yolk is always nice and strong, yellow almost orange. so i guess i'm providing for their needs very well.

my girls and boys seem to be very healthy and happy! so i am so very hopeful for some babies anyday now-probably sat. ohhhh so excited!! this is my first time with hatching so i hope to get at least one or two. i only sat 5 eggs, i didn't know how well my broody was going to do. she's stayed put for the most part so far when she wasn't on the nest she had a "babysitter". so here's to hoping!!!!

everyone's babies are so cute, i just can't wait. i'm loving all the baby pictures.

Help please!

It's day 21. All chicks have hatched except for one. This chick was developing, but right now they're are no pips. The other chicks are super squished in my tiny incubator - there's 6. So should I just go ahead and take those chicks (and egg) out? They are almost fully fluffy. I'm worried about them injuring themselves since they keep moving and there's no room.

ETA:

I would. The looked pretty cramped. :) Hurry as quick as you can, and just watch the other for another day or two. Pretty good hatch there!

I would still take out all the chicks & then close the bator up ASAP, leaving the egg in there still
&if by this time tomorrow if there still isnt any star crack or pipping or zipping then I would make a hole in the air sac end to look for proof-of-life. That last part is my opinion, but the first part I think is best for the chicks - don't risk the health of your hatched chicks over one egg that you don't know for sure about.
X 2 Exactly right.

I would take the chicks out- but if it were me I'd just leave the egg another day - you never know! But I'd make sure that both sides of the water cup are full once you take the chicks out- so the humidity stays up- good luck

The hydrometer I have reads high/low and reg humidity level, what do I need to gage by? The temp of the meter and the thermometer from the bator is reading about the same temp. What does the reg humidity - high /low need to read before I put my eggs in there?

Thanks

My Swedish Flower Hen chick (darkest) and 2 Blue laced Red Wyndotte just moved to brooder
I was about to put them in the brooder making sure the temp was right first ...when i went to open the bator here is a wet one squirming around...a Lavender Orpington just had hatch !
Never saw a pip or zip at all and i have looked all day every 1/2 hour.!
He was under the heater but still i looked there . Super fast hatch

Ok, Lockdown for me tonight. I just candled my 5 eggs, and I saw movement in each egg! That's good... BUT...

I had posted a while ago about 1 egg that we all determined might possibly be a double yolk because there is a "unused" portion of the egg that appeared sludgy. (I have it down as egg #1) Anyways, THAT egg actually looked pretty good today. However, I have a different egg (#7) with some growth issues. Really?! GRR.

This one looks like it has since acquired an unused side of the egg. MAYBE I didn't write my notes well enough & MAYBE this is actually the same egg as the last report, and not a different one. I'm going to think that this is the case. I must have mixed the eggs up in my notes.

Anyways, here's the "Day 18 Lockdown" picture of that egg. I guess we'll see what hatches if it hatches. It will be a learning experience for us all either way.

lockdown pic -Actually egg "#7" is around the corner in this picture, but I will be sure to monitor it closely. All the rest of the eggs show large dark areas with a small portion of clear & veining between the dark & the air sack. As they should!

Here is the egg with issues...

Another shot of the same egg from a different angle. There is movement in this egg!!
