I am so sorry it didn't turn out better for you! I was sure mine would do as good as they did! Sounds like you did just about everything about the same as me! I don't understand what happened!!! Dont let this hatch discourage you from your rest or even more in the future! Great big hugs coming from down south!!!!!!

i know something went terribly wrong. Maybe one is rotten and killed the others before born, or something, does the inside of your incubator smell terrible??? I need to know if that's normal too. I mean bad bad. Like rotten meat and sewage.... Yeah....it's that bad.

That's what I was going to do, but I found out they won't fit - so I'm going to try the rag.

Remeber too that on Day 7 you are going to be candling them. Maybe toss the ones that show no development and then you will have more room and may be able to get them in the egg carton cups? Or maybe by then one of us will come up with an idea to keep them upright throughout the process.

Just set up the BMA for the Serama eggs I'm setting tomorrow morning. BHep sent a whole ton of extras that sadly my incubator won't hold. Today when I was making sure all 12 fit in there it was pushing it, but I'm going to see if I can squeeze another 1 or 2 in there - I'm feeling like I'm deciding the life or death of these chicks, even though all the extra eggs will go to a friend with a larger incubator that will hold them all. So far I have 4 from each breeding pen. Hoping for some Frizzled Serama and some Silkied Serama!

At least the extras won't be going to waste. Good Luck!!!

Well. I am disappointed, confused, sad, and feeling like a failure....and I have NO idea what happened. Especially at the end.

Eggs in incubator 1: 48
one doz completely infertile, -12
another 11 thrown out early
lockdown: 25
hatched: 8 currently, one breaking through now.
died: 1

eggs that were active, fertile, and even rocking on Monday a LOT: 9

eggs that look dead inside this morning in the eggs or maybe died this last week: 9

my heart....broken.

what in the heck happened?????? Now I don't even know why I am excited for the next two batches in now. Is this what I have to look forward to all the time??? I had 4 last night showing some kind of sign of life and now one....one egg is hatching even with signs of life on day 21. I used my big candler light this morning on the remaining eggs and most look like deep dark jagged hunks of stuff on half the egg with clear liquid (?) filling the rest of the egg. It's swirly and pointed lines. Not a chicken form and certainly not a full egg....

but what happened?!?!?!

The only thing different in incubator 2 is I have hand turned these and appear to have a much higher fertility rate....but then again, I fully expected 22 of the 25 eggs from this week to hatch.....and we see where that went.

What is that like a 15% hatch rate!!?!! How did this set do so bad???? I am at a loss for understanding this morning. And horribly sad.
I wounder if high humidity could cause the sticky stuff. I am very new to this so I by no means can offer adivice. I just noticed that my humidity is running a little higher this time with the same amount of water in the bator. Last time we had very cold dry weather but it has been raing and warm her for about 3 days. Perhaps some of the veterains on here can comment? I am very sorry about your loss Peach. I suppose it's like anything I've tried to learn before, when things don't work right is when we learn the most about what we are trying to do. I'll say a little prayer for your next batch.

When I went to bed last night I had 16 chicks and 6 eggs left to hatch! When I woke up this morning at 5:30 there were 21 babies in my incubator, so I have 1 egg left to hatch now. I would take the dry ones out but I can't tell how big a pip there is in the other egg, if any at all!!!! OMG!!!! I can't believe I actually did it!!!!!

WOW!!! Congrats on the excellent hatch rate!!!!

My hatch is coming along slowly but surely. It's Day 21, and I have 2 fluffies in the brooder and three drying out and doing well in the bator. Still quite a few eggs left, but no pips that I can see. Except for one, the first one that pipped on day 19. It's having a lot of trouble. It's still alive, and has made a big pip. I tried to help last night and again this morning, but as soon as I chipped away a bit of the shell, I can see blood. The blood vessels simply aren't receding. So I wrapped it in a damp washcloth and returned it to the bator. It's a long shot.

Love hearing about everyone's hatches....keep on crackin!!
This is my problem! Today is day 21. I had one that I got up for yesterday at 5;30 and didn't go to sleep until 11 since I was watching it. I woke up today. 8 fluffballs, and the first egg was still in its shell! Its halfway cracked (or made its "ring" as I call it), and should be able to push out. I fear he died in there. I had no choice but to open this morning to add water, it was dry after my efforts to fill it up with a straw. I pulled the other eggs and shells out, but I hope I didn't hurt the other eggs.

Should I assist? It hasn't been 24 hours, mabye 12, since the "ring". Over 24 since pip, but that really means nothing. Did I just shrink wrap him?

See, I had a shrink wrap too though, so it makes no sense! I wish I knew what I did wrong so I don't kill the 30 or so VERY active eggs due next week!! I appreciate the help and support too. I want to throw up. They aren't so much as stick as they are just gross. Dry, brittle feathers and they dried looking like they did when they came out, I seriously want to wash them all!!!

Thank you JP

No it doesn't. It's really messy in there but doesn't stink. I haven't smelled anything coming from mine!!!! I sure hope someone comes along and know what's going on! And mine are fluffed up. I don't understand, Have you done a search to see if you can figure it out! I will search now!

Johnny, I lost one by what I think was not intervening yesterday and saved one. If you do choose to help, take the egg into a hot steamy bathroom. Start with a tiny amount to get a good look at what's going on. Maybe even a bigger starter hole and then put it back and wait. If you see bleeding STOP immediately and put it back, and don't "break off" the umbilical cord if there is one!! Good luck!!!
