February 2023 hatch-a-long

I was awake at 4 am (thanks to my 7 month old baby) and I also decided to candle the legbar egg that was peeping yesterday. Well, it literally pipped the shell when I picked it up!! I guess the flashlight startled it enough to pip lol. I had 3 other external pips and lots of movement…should be more action later today!
Amazing!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for your chicks!

I just candled my eggs and 6 are still going strong! I’m kind of curious to see what I get! I have 4 roosters and one laying hen in this pen haha. It’ll either be a purebred d’Anver or something bantam EE 😆 I feel like a kid on Christmas week impatiently waiting to see if Santa is getting me what I wanted or something close but not quite! 😆 1 more day till lockdown!

I have 3 chicken eggs that I'm almost 100% sure are fertile, (Day 2) and I might have seen an internal pip in my quail egg day 15! Its justs a small dark shadow in the air sac, probably my imagination, but still cool! The Day 15 egg is still alive and hoping for its hatch!
Nah, I don't reckon its an internal pip as much as I wish it to be.. :barnie
I did notice though, when I rotated the egg on the candler, a little bit of dark thing was coming into the air sac, no more than a waning crescent, (excellent example).
Any thoughts?

(I also turned on a quail cheeping noise to encourage the egg hatch. Can't do much harm, right?)

Ahhhh! I just came home to a baby legbar! 😍 I hope it’s going to be healthy and strong! Most of the other eggs have pipped or are currently hatching…except for the marans 😢 I hope they make it, but no signs of hatching yet…

So…had a terrible accident yesterday. My son decided he was going to climb up to where the incubator was to get the flashlight. And ALL the eggs and incubator went on the floor. It was awful! I lost so many. I couldn’t be mad at my son because he is only 2. I was able to save a couple that had cracks on them. Others that didn’t have cracks still didn’t survive because of the fall itself. It’s more heartbreaking because they were ALL doing so well. I only had 2 of the 20 that were questionable. One turned out to not be fertilized and the other I just couldn’t make up my mind on. There was one that for sure wouldn’t have made it because, turns out there was twins in it. I’m down to maybe 5 Cemani eggs and even though I’m still trying to decide on my Cochins, I believe I only have about 3 of them little ones left. Live and learn I guess. A lot of that going on for me this year. But my wonderful husband ordered more for me. We asked that she ship them next Tuesday because by the time they get here and rest these little guys should be hatching. Fingers crossed that this fall didn’t seal their doom and it is just taking time.

Oh noooo, that is just so sad. I’m so sorry! 🥺😢 I hope the surviving eggs make it 😢😢 That is one of those nightmares I have about incubation. Cats, dogs, children, so many things in this house that could accidentally do something like that. Fingers crossed for you!
