February 2023 hatch-a-long

The first lot is complete, time to sum up:
Australorps: 2 fertile eggs (6 clear!), 2 hatched, they aren't Black Australorps, might be blue
Silkies (all from the same person):
Yellow: 10 eggs: 9 fertile eggs (1 clear). Out of the 9 there was 1 early quitter, 2 died at hatch (malpositioned, didn't pip), 6 hatched (1 assisted, was malpositioned but had more luck then the other two and he managed to pip and made a decent hole, just couldnt turn to zip). I just got her out of the egg since everybody was out no blood, no yolk. Glad I waited.
White: got 5 eggs, 2 were clear, 3 hatched with no problems. Pictures of the last silkie
All shipped eggs so not too bad

Bantam Cochin LOCKDOWN started yesterday!!! We have 7 total , 6 bouncing babes and one I’m not quite sure .

They’re so cute!!! It almost looks like a splash chick…Does the breeder sell blue/black/splash? Or do they just advertise black?

There’s an australorp breeder on OLX that I wanted to order from because he has a BBS flock. I ordered my Bresse eggs from him last year, so I know he packs well and sells good eggs. I really want splash babies because they’re so beautiful! But I would probably only end up with a couple splash and too many blue and black that I would have to sell…or eat

This is day 16 and this egg seems a little clear on one side....I can see the chick moving around in there but the other eggs all have dark all the way through. Is this chick going to be ok? It's kind of hard to see in the pic.

Let me know when yours start to pip. Seems like mine are at least 2 days behind.

Bad news…one marans has finally pipped, looks ok. I made a safety hole in the second, and it was big enough to see what’s going on when I shined a flashlight on it - it has severe scissor beak that’s why it never pipped externally, but has been peeping/crying a lot…I feel so bad for it…. Going to give it a chance, will probably have to assist, but I don’t want it to suffer too long…I should probably let nature just take control from here and not assist…

I would not assist. So sad
