That's not just some bit of tissue stuck and dried to the eyeball? That's what it looks like in the photo.

That's what it seems like when I look closely at it, but I didn't have any luck soaking/softening it. It's like that on both sides.
I'll try again in the morning - babies and I are exhausted and I worry I'll do more harm than good tonight.

Ah... so both sides, likely not foreign matter stuck to the eyes, then. IMHO, if it were my chick, I'd humanely cull it. If it's not something stuck TO the eyes that can be removed, then it's some sort of deformity. Whatever it is, the chick cannot see like that and it's not likely to resolve or heal within 2-3 days to the point of adequate eyesight. If it can't see, it won't be able to eat or drink.
Your decision. I've read today from someone whose first chick hatched on a Monday, but didn't lead her chicks to food and water until Friday. They can survive a surprisingly long time on the yolk they absorbed. You might give it that length of time to see if it can resolve and be able to eat. By that time, though, it will be harder to let it go.

I keep checking to see if there is any changes to them. I mean come on lady…it’s only day 18…. . I can’t wait until they start their journey hatching. Impatient is me…

I have my older chicks 1 1/2 weeks in a different brooder. I am keeping these smaller chicks in the other brooder.
I think there are 4 of the older ones i will keep.
and I want these 4 little ones they are cute.

The above pic the chick to the left is light gray with gold, but the pic shows mostly the gold.

Lol well don’t want to be breaking the law!! for some reason I cannot get my flash to work and it’s getting around sunset here. I’ll try to take a little bit more bright pictures tomorrow.

So have I! The older ones are in a different brooder. The little ones are to small and still tired. They also need to learn how to eat and drink properly. Plus the older ones are getting realy lively (and big).

Your baby chicks are so beautiful! The one with gray and gold is just stunning! What is it? There are so many chicks in this thread that i can't keep track of them

I stopped getting notifications for this thread. Just caught up on way too many pages to comment on all but OMG so many cute babies!!!!!!!!!!!

Makes me even more excited for my next hatch! My eggs should be here in the morning. then I will let them sit and set them on Friday!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having problems with the last egg. The chick has pipped internally but nothing since. I can hear it's trying but no pip in the shell. Everybody else is out now and that is worying. I did a safety hole about 5-6 hrs ago so i think I'm going to wait a bit longer and then open the egg from the air cell. Hopefully it won't be necessary.

Yes, it hatched with no problems and looks good
To sum up the last lot, I had 10 eggs, 1 clear and 1 early quitter so 8 made it to lockdown and 8 hatched. I am sooo happy with the results. This one was difficult because of the issues with humidity (staggered hatch) but I managed and there were no problems with excess fluid this time.
I have 5 pitch black (just a little bit of white only) Australorp babies with nice dark feet and beaks, 1 that is slightly lighter and has
white middle toes and 1 with a lot od white and white feet plus the surprice partridge chick.
We're closing that shop now
I must say being a part of this hatch along has been fantasting, thank you all

EE chicks. The dad was a red, and the mom's were different colors some were blue/gray.

I hatched 20 so far and just waiting on the last 3.

Yeah, after a closer look last night, I think culling is the right answer, as hard as it will be. The eyes and eyelids are formed incorrectly and it's clear the poor little chick is at a loss for what to do. Thank you for weighing in - I really appreciate the second opinion.
