Despite the late-comer chicks, the show must go on!
I took the incubator in the car (plugged into a converter) to the Elementary School (3 miles away) for the class.
I peeled some of the shell off one so the kids could see what was going on. Wet paper towel keeps the membrane moist.
Not one of the four has gone beyond pipping yet!

I'm forming a new theory on why they're so late...
I had two thermometers disagreeing with each other. The Hovabator said 100*, but the probe thermometer hovered between 97.5-99*. I decided to trust the hovabator, as my infrared thermometer registered the shells themselves between 99-100*. However, when I tested the probe on myself, it read 98.5*. Soooo, now I'm thinking the probe was right, and it was actually too low the whole time.
Question: if you were me, would you increase .5 or a whole degree on my next hatch?

Yes, but, after they pip it can be another 4, 10, 20, 28 hours until they hatch...or die trying. It seems forever once the pip starts but the blood vessels are retreating and the yolk is still absorbing. How are your eggs doing after being moved around today? Are they still okay? I really hope you get some chicks here...

I went up 1/2 degree on my incubator...although when day 21 hit the pips have started like clockwork~

They did fine in transport. I made them each a paper towel "nook" to keep them from rolling. They were in the exact same position upon arrival (there and home). They are all breathing and peeping up a storm, so I'm really hopeful they'll all make it! The one I peeled open for class has visible veins through the membrane, so I am sure they are all just busily "finishing up"...

And then there were three.....
The one with the shallowest pip died. I don't think it was getting enough air, as it was not only shallow, but also like halfway down the egg...
Come on last three!!
