Finally caught up on this thread!

Congratulations everyone! Loving all the great pics.

I'm 2 days until lockdown and I am getting nervous! .Mainly I am afraid that there will be deaths and I will have to see it. I have only hen hatched and let her do all the work. Somehow losses have felt easier that way with nature steering the ship So grateful to have followed all of you and taken your journeys to prepare myself! Thanks everyone for sharing!!!!

We put our first incubator into lockdown last night, and just in time apparently. Woke up this morning to the sound of peeping. Found one of the SLW-'cauna cross eggs has started to pip! And not just one, but 2.

You probably learned a dozen crazy things from me.... ;)

Please help! One chick hatched this morning (about 4 hours ago), only one other egg was fertile. I *think* I heard cheeping from the other egg but it wasn't cracked yet. Should I intervene? Don't want it to suffocate!

Thanks!
Rory

Were they due to hatch today? If you just started to hear cheeping, that's normal and leave it be for now.

We are up to 4 chicks hatched so far, got a couple videos that I plan on linking here after work.

LOL! I think I learned toooooo much from everyone... now the possibilities seem endless. Nevertheless, I am better for it. So many great tips and tricks in my bag.

Actually, yesterday, so they are 1 day late. But the first hatchling seems perfectly healthy.

A good question -- how do you know when/if to intervene?
I would leave it be for 24 hrs and reassess the situation. If it doesn't pip externally on its own or starts to sound weak I'd make a tiny hole for air and see what's going on.
