FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

I'm in also....
eggs were set 1-15 into my hovabator genesis w/turner. this is my first attempt and hope that all goes well. since i was going thru an egg withdrawal due to worming meds i figured why not put use to these eggs. so i waited till the last 5 days of the withdrawal period to collect eggs & now i have 40 Redhorn (RIR x WL) eggs. so far temps been at 99-100F and humidity has been at 45-46%. 19 more days to go..!!!!!!

What flashlight do you guys recommend for candling darker eggs? I'm not having much luck with my cheapo LED one.

I wonder what Shamo x Marans chicks are gonna look like? Cool!

This is only an educated guess, but they should look a little like this hen, only much more meaty. This hen is a cross of Thai and Production Red. Thais are similar to but smaller than Shamos, Production Reds have a more similar body type to Marans, but are much skinnier and smaller.

Basically the more European/American type body of the Marans shortens the Shamo's long, upright body and muscles, making them appear larger, and all together making the chicken look more compact and stocky like a Cornish.

Those are cool looking chickens!!

I am hatching with an LG too. Its all I've ever used and it has hatched 100s of babies for me. It isn't my favorite and I will probably be upgrading this spring. I might still use my two LGs for hatchers though. I really hope I get a bunch of broodies to do my dirty work lol.

In... My eggs will be (hopefully) hatching on Feb. 4th. It is so exciting. Going to candle them next weekend and see what is happening. Got a mix in this test run, EE, Silkie, Sultan, RIR, Serama, etc. Hope I have some luck. A few might be mixes, cause some of them are running free range right now. Guess we'll see. Working on breeding pens to fix that.

I am in. My hatch date will be Feb 5. I have 96 eggs cooking. I will update when I candle on day 4 or 5.
I have :
53 marans ( mostly FCBM)
29 coronation Sussex
14 blue splash Cochins

Let's hope we all do well

In my defense, the eggs were two weeks old and it was this or throw them out. How could anyone throw out adorable baby chicks!! Impossible. So of course I had to put them in the incubator, I had no choice! Fiance didn't even bat an eye when I told him, how well trained is he?!

Anyone else who was forced to put in some eggs today?

I am so excited to be hatching with you all!

I can see this is going to be a long 21 days. I am on day #2 and keep checking temp and humidity each few hours, then writing it down in a journal. Then I raced back to my laptop to read everything on the net about incubatiing.

The one thing I hadn't read any where but in this post was 'why the LG incubator has two different channel areas and what the difference is'. I was just pouring a little water in where ever it ended up. Right now I am holding steady at 100f and 52% humidity ... I am not sure how to get the humidity down to say 40% .... do I open/close the red vent plugs to control that.

And lastly ... I plan on 'trying' with all my might not to candle until day 8-9 because I have green/blue eggs and have never candled so I'll have no good idea what I'm seeing until it's bigger. That's my logic anyway.

I really appreciate every one sharing all their tips and stories!!!!
