Feds: Backyard flocks sicken people in 44 states.

"
From a quick search: "CDC estimates Salmonella causes about 1.2 million illnesses, 23,000 hospitalizations, and 450 deaths in the United States every year." - and that number is NOT for the most part from backyard chickens with "212 people in 44 states" sickened, which is not even a drop in the bucket compared to 1.2 million...it's barely 0.0177%. Yes, you want to wash your hands and enforce sanitary procedures if you choose to raise your own chickens. I think anyone who wants to do this will research for themselves and don't need scare stories like this... " -Tim Chandler

It's pretty obvious that the CDC is in bed with big agriculture. This is only the latest cycle of news stories meant to scare people out of raising their own food. Morrigan's post and MillersFarm's post are both on point, but somehow the media never includes the broader picture in their stories. It is infuriating and being the stubborn old cuss that I am, it makes me all the more determined to keep raising poultry.
