One of the local farmers markets here in NW Oregon has people selling a dozen farm fresh eggs for up to $8/dozen. They are in crazy demand since Portland has so many "hippie" types that want cage free organic eggs. They are like gold here.

Do consider a chicken tractor for "semi free ranging". Because we are not allowed to have hens ("livestock") roaming in our front yard I built a portable run, it fits right over out raised beds and goes around the whole yard. I made out of chicken wire wire tires, plastic "hoops" and scrap wood for almost no cost. It reduces the cost of feeding, provides fertilizer in the front garden, reduces the insect and slug population and we have happy hens.I plan to keep the layers in a seperate coop than the others and none will be free range do to the predators in area. Any help would be appreciated! thanks!
We get $2.50 so see? It is all relative, isn't it.I get $5 a dozen for my eggsI just say $4 is about average here for farm fresh.![]()
I guess so!We get $2.50 so see? It is all relative, isn't it.
Yes! I am planning on some type of tractor if nothing else but for the spreading of the droppings. We have 5 wooded acres so some spots will be a challenge like the front half acree I would not put them on because it is to close to a limerock road. I wouldnt want any thieves to get any ideas and would not want the hens to be "dusted" every 10 minutes or so from cars. On the bright side of the wooded acre part is that most all of it is "virgin land" so there are PLENTY of bugs to go around for the pecking!Do consider a chicken tractor for "semi free ranging".
