Feed and water

I keep my feed and water under my coop enclosure. I've been worried that the chickens will need it throughout the night. Does anyone put water in the roosting/laying area and throughout the night? Or is okay to leave it in the run?

I keep the water out in the run, food inside. The only exception is during winter when the water has to be on a heated base. They won't be interested in water in the dark, so no worries.

Chickens cannot see in low light so do not eat or drink at night. You only need to have food and water in the coop if you cannot let them outside early in the morning when they wake up.

I don’t know how old your chickens are, but they shouldn’t need it overnight.

My chickens don’t get water at night. If the run is secure you can leave it there so they have it first thing in the morning.

From roughly 4-5 weeks on my birds don't get water access (it's in the run) or food (I remove it all at dusk) at night. We keep the property pitch black so they have no reason to be leaving the roost.

We remove all water and food at night after they roost to deter predators, especially rats and mice. No need to leave it out.
