Feed and water

I am feeding my chickens the food I bought off the farmer, its home made layer. I have six full grown chickens and I have been putting 3 cups of food in the feeder a day. Is that too much?

Also he said i didnt need to add anything to water but now I am not sure. Should I add a medicine or something?

If they chickens are eating all the feed before you feed the next day, its not enough. Chickens wont over eat. You also dont need to add anything to your water.
