Feed brand

The best thing about a pelleted diet is that they can't sort through for their favorite seeds.
I looked at the Nutriblend types online and it seems that the green formula and the gold formula are designed to be mixed together to achieve your desired protein vs energy levels. The green is described as high protein low energy and the gold is supposed to be high energy low protein.
The Checkers pellets by Purina are supposed to be a complete diet but I can't find a listing of the ingredients.
Sometimes I keep feed labels to compare what, if anything they have changed between batches... I looked and happened to find an old pigeon checkers label. Doesn't mean it will be identical to a new one, but it's at least close. IMG_20200520_145557240.jpg

One other thing. Recently i was looking at the Tractor Supply website and did a search for pigeon feed and saw they were carrying Audubon pigeon feed (never even knew it existed before), and now that is gone and they have purina feeds... They sure seem to change things quickly and often over there at tractor supply

Yes the company sure does... But most anything purina I can “worksheet” special order too. so even if it’s not on the website and we do not normally stock it I can still get it.

Yes... peas, roasted soybeans, or something like a grower/all flock pellet. Some people even add in pelleted fish food to boost protein as they are very high protein foods, but I personally don't recommend doing this as I just don't feel very high protein levels are needed. Even safflower will boost protein to a certain extent, but the drawback is it's very high in fat so you can't use too much of it (plus they will get spoiled on it and want to leave everything else).
Any other recommendations for boosting protein? I can’t find any peas or roasted soybeans locally and really don’t want to order and pay for shipping. Im trying to cut feed cost from $37 a bag, and am thinking of a mix of corn, wheat, millet, safflower, black oil sunflower seeds and I am needing a substitute for the peas

Some kind of poultry flock pellet, or non medicated turkey pellets

I was really hoping to stay away from pellets. I’ll try and source some peas I guess
Try contacting Lizzie Mae. https://lizziemaesbirdseed.com/backyard-bird-watching-enthusiasts/ Rob should be able to tell you if anyone in your area is selling their pigeon feed. Often times a pigeon club, or some member from the club get deliveries of their feed and then sells it. They have many different mixes, and also sell many individual grains like peas, wheat, corn etc. Also if you have a Wild bird's unlimited in your area, the wild bird food they sell is made by Lizzie Mae, so if you asked the owner of the store they might be able to order whatever pigeon feed you wanted and have it delivered to the store along with their normal order. It's very nice feed, and I was using it for years, but for me it was a longer drive which I got tired of and started using Browns from a closer store.

Thankyou very much, I’ll look into both of those!
