Feed costs rising! Transitioning to different feed. *Questions*

From $18+ to $24 in S Texas. I’m hesitant to change because I started them on Nutrina Wise and they didn’t like it, but they do like Purina. Maybe I should just stock up and have reserve - I would imagine we will see more of a hike. 😒
FWIW, I had my previous flock turn up their beaks at the Nutrena Nature Wise Feather Fixer. They ate everything else I gave them though. Had no issues just finishing up one bag, then starting the next.

My chickens won’t touch it either. I’ve got the Nature Wise all flock. Figured I’d try it out. It smells weird. I keep mixing a little in with their new stuff (Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve). They eat the new stuff way too fast. I’d love to stick with it but not at $40/50lb bag.

About the same price here. They will eat it eventually. After a hungry night in the coop they'll come out hungry. We supplement various feed to make up for possible nutrition deficiencies when we switch feeds. Oyster shell and protein supplement and for the life of me I'm going blank on the name. I'll get back to you on that. Do you keep feed for the available all day?

If you search BYC forums, most of the complaints with the DuMor have to do with pellets reduced to powder due to handling, and really old lots of feed stocked on the shelf - for which I mostly plame the stocking practices of the selling businesses, rather than DuMor.

Yes, its made with a lot of byproducts. But its nutritional numbers, for a cheap(er) feed are sruprisingly good. They *could* have cut corners on Met, Lys, P and vitamins, things most people don't know to look for in their feed, but they didn't.

I don't use it, but I don't use it because I can get a better feed, cheaper still, from the local mill. That said, if I didn't live in an area of the country with a lot of commercial chciken farms, I wouldn't have the benefit of a local mill with the economies of scale that mine enjoys supplying all those commercial chicken operations.

I have used the TSC layer pellets, but I have tried the stuff from Walmart, Family Farms which turns out is made by Mannapro. I currently have a bag of Nutrena, and Ware Milling 16% layer feeds. They all have similar guaranteed analysis of the feed. Sorry, was going to photos of the labels but having trouble uploading them.

apologies for the spelling errors. i never pay much attention, but i tripped over the cat on my way down the stairs and caught myself on the door handle, putting all my weight on the shoulder where my bursitis is flaring. unusually unintelligible this evening. Self medication does not assist typing.

i may be afk tomorrow.

Need to change feed due to cost. Does anyone use the TSC layer feed - Producers Pride? Do your hens like it?
Any pros or cons to share besides cost?
I currently use Purina Layena and cost is up ….again so looking to make a change. If so, do I do a gradual transition like I do with horse feed? I appreciate your input 🤗
Have you looked for an Amish feed store in your area? They generally have less expensive feeds and will be locally sourced grains.
