Feed Efficient Breed?

Could there be anything to this guy's claim that his Silver Laced Wyandottes, a true "dual purpose" breed, are extremely "feed efficient"? He claims that they eat less feed than other birds, but I'm not sure what ELSE he has... I need to poke around some more. THANKS

I have to wonder if it is more of an individual thing. The person that claims to have very effecient SLW may just have a group that is doing well, he may just have great conditions so his birds do well no matter what, or they may be truly effecient. In any case you will find nothing that puts on weight as quickly as those cornish crosses.

I am told that RIR are effecient, but mine do not appear to be, but on the other hand I have not measured or weighed the feed so it is my sense more than it is my documented truth. For all I know the squirrels are stealing most of it during the day LOL. If I were looking for effeciency I would look for ways to range, and scavenge food from grocery's etc.

I think you will get better results in terms of feed cost by being creative about where the food comes from than you will be to sort out the most effecient breed. Especially if you arel looking for dual purpose.

Just my opinion I am not a student of any of these breeds. I just spend small fortunes on feed and try not to pay too much attention. LOL
