Feed for everyone

I have 6 week chicks and adults together. My understanding is that I can feed the combo starter/grower from Nutrena that I just picked up to everyone, and supplement oyster shell for the hens. Is this correct? Is the starter portion of the feed going to be a problem?

I also picked up a bag of the Purina Sunfresh layer feed that has marigold in it. I wanted to try it, but can I sit on that bag for another 4 months until everyone can eat it? Or will the bag be stale by then?

Starter/grower for every one, with oyster shell on the side will work. Fresh feed is always good. Seal the bag in an container to keep it fresh. Oxygen and moisture in the air are what makes the feed go stale.

how do you give oyster shell to the older ones w/o the young ones eating it?

They will only eat what they need and, if they don't need it, they won't eat it....just like offering grit free choice. If a few of the young ones pick at the OS, I wouldn't worry...I've never seen any of my young ones consume any of i, just pick at it to see what it is~food or not food? No? Let's go eat something else!
