feed oats for horses to your chickens

I would like to buy some whole oats for my chickens. I see all the time when I go to tractor supply. there meant
to attracted deer are these oats ok to give to my chickens. I've also read about people feeding horse oats to chickens
 
If they're unhulled oats, I think they would be hard to digest for chickens. I think it's Chris09 on here who soaks his oats for a few days before feeding to chickens. I think he says it helps soften the fiber in (hulled, I think) oats. Perhaps he will chime in.

If you feed oats, make sure they still get ample protein.

i ferment the whole grain oats i give to my chickens.....cover the oats with a couple inches of water stir a few times a day in a bucket with loose fitting cover for a couple of days....

Hello! This thread was from 6+ years ago. I expect they have it sorted by now.

The new "similar threads" feature doesn't filter out (very) old posts, so you have to check the dates manually. I'm presuming that's how you got here - it's happening a lot. In the future you might wanna check the date of the most recent post before replying to a topic.
