howdy all. my chicks are about 3 months old and my maw went to get feed for them today. the dude at the store gave her a big bag of layer crubles and scratch feed and told her to mix them. is this what i should be feeding them at this point?
The calcium in layer feed is BAD for young chickens not yet laying. Scratch is very high in carbohydrates, not so great with protein.
Most feed stores have "all purpose" chicken feed, if they don't have Purina Flock Raiser or other grower/finisher food. That's what should be fed to young chickens not yet laying. And they don't usually start laying until they are 5 or 6 months old.
