Feed question

Before I got my ducklings, I contacted Nutrena, and this was their reply

From Nutrena-
Thank you for your inquiry and for visiting our website. It is best to start your ducklings on NON MEDICATED NatureWise Chick Starter. Continue the starter feed for the first 7 weeks and then you can switch over to All Flock 18% (Country Feeds or NatureWise). All of our poultry feeds have Niacin. The NatureWise Chick Starter has 185 mg/kg. The All Flock is 125 mg/kg. The NatureWise Meatbird is 81 mg/kg. The niacin requirement for ducks per NRC is 55 mg/kg. Additional supplementation is not required but no harm if you want to add some brewers yeast. Brewer’s yeast is a very good B vitamin source as well.

Yes this was similar to my reply but I only asked about the different lines not exact formals.

I can honesty say Ducklings are as easy or as hard as a person wants them to be. I don't purchase specific duckling food and I have zero need for all the niacin supplements and raise extremely healthy Birds. Definitely proper nutrition is needed as is daily excercise.
I feed an all flock starter feed for Turkeys, chickens, Ducks and Geese..
Thats awesome, cant beat those results!

But the thing is forums draw in issues... Most duck owners wouldnt go online, make an account, just to post that their ducks are fine.

People wake up with an issue, THEN go online, make an account and ask about their problem. So forums are 95% people with problems...

So iam in no way questioning your experience, you have quadrupel the experience i have, ive had ducklings grow to adulthood fine without added nutrients too, so iam just asking you to consider the statistics

i dont know how many ducks you have but i think you have 8 (me guessing from your posts about them)

so if you have 8 you have probably less than .05% of the planets population of ducks. So that makes the odds very high that you just ended up with ducks that dont need added vitamins

So that means .05% of ducks definitly dont need it. But mabye somewhere in the other 99.95% there are some that need it

Some children are raised on kraft dinner and hotdogs and grow up fine while others get the best of treatments but still lack vitamins

Boy are you right about this! Especially when you put it into human situations!

This is true, you can't put all ducks or humans in the same category. Some naturally need more nutrients than others.

You can compare the different feeds that are geographically available to you by using @Texas Kiki 's feed chart here.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...j3Bt5CUQfX1PlTEhg799sDT-qM/edit#gid=531636464

At the bottom are tabs and you can select "Duck Feed" or "All Flock" to view these types of feeds specifically.

Honestly I would start by seeing what your local feed store carries and go from there. At least check the brands, and then if you want a specific feed from one of those brands they can likely get it in stock for you.

Following up to say that often when I go to the feed store (there are a few about the same distance from my house) I have found that they only carry one type of all flock feed and/or one variety of organic feed. There aren't a lot of options. The feed I buy might not be my first choice, but it is the best choice of what is available. An 18% All Flock of any variety for instance is better suited for my mixed flock than a 16% layer or 22% meat bird feed. Your birds will do just fine :) with whatever you can find I'm sure.
