Feed question

Any feed mills in your area??

I have been using the local feed mill mix at 18% start to finish - the meaties hit the tractor at about 3 weeks.
I have to agree with uhuh555 theses guys will eat more the there bodies will process. After taking to the mill I had to agree with the logic behind 18% feed, the extra protein can also cause the meaties to have looser stool and well just make a mess of things.
After trying both ways to raise cx I am going to stick with 1 feed the whole way at 18%.

As far as consumption goes about 15 lbs a bird to 6-7 weeks.

So am i reading this right. Turkey starter is better then the other stuff. I have 3 turkeys and will have plenty of turkey starter left over. I guess i can feed it to my 10 meat birds. .....jim

No, I live in the middle of nowhere. I have asked several people locally what they use and I get the same response. Most use turkey starter. I may switch to flock raiser towards the end but for now I have a bag of turkey starter to use since we have baby turkeys right now also. Thank you for the suggestions, some day hopefully we will not live in such a barren area for livestock.

Hitnspit, I have been told by 3 feed stores it is fine to use for the meaties, also someone mentioned it had more vitamins and minerals so I checked that out also, sure enough. I believe you would be perfectly fine using what you have and switching when you run out as broiler feed is usually significantly cheaper, just not where I live.
