Feed question...

Chickens are omnivores! The more variety they have, the healthier they'll be. Feeding a rooster lots of different things is especially important if he's eating layer crumbles.

It's been my experience, that if something isn't good for a chicken to eat, they will not eat it. Of course, that doesn't necessarily account for their inexplicable taste for silicone caulk and styrofoam.
 
Would you suggest switching to an all flock feed & having oyster shells on the side if I plan on keeping a rooster?
 
if your worried about the calcium in the layer harming your roo switching to a all flock feed with oyster shell on the side for you layers would work very well as only your layers should go after the oyster shell and your roo would leave it alone as he doesn't need the extra calcium
 
I have been feeding my rooster layer feed now for almost a year and a half. He also free ranges and gets table scraps. He is healthy and fighting fit.
