I make 5 pans of mash every morning. Right now I use Kalmbach layer crumbles and add crushed red peppers, oatmeal and split peas that have soaked all night. I mix all of that together with warm water. I'm wondering what else I could add that would be good for my chickens and ducks.

They can eat it themselfs without it being mashed, but if you wish. I use purina orgainc layer feed with oyster! My hens are known to have problems in there eggs so I like to have that there. I also offer grit and oyster. Hope this helps!

How many chicken do you have?
Is that their daily treat?

I would switch to one of their formulations with higher protein - such as flock maker or feather fixer - and cut out the oatmeal and peas. They don't really need anything else besides their feed. If you're already going through the effort of making a mash every day it wouldn't be much more work to ferment their feed which would improve digestibility. Of course neither making a mash nor fermenting is necessary, they can eat the crumbles just fine and their health won't suffer for it
