I work for a feed store as a chicken and feed advisor, and I was wondering what breeds you all like to see in averag feed stores. Nothing to exotic, just looking for about 6-7 breeds. We also carry hatchery choice ducks and hatchery choice turkeys in addition. Currently we're trying to keep the following breeds in stock: Black Australorp, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, Ameraucanas, Buff Orpingtons, Gold, and Blak sex-links, Cornish Cross, and sometimes Sagittas. Does anyone have any other breeds they could think of? Also are there any of the breeds listed you think we don't need? Thank you for your advice!!

I love my speckled sussex and dark bramha I got from the feed store. I have an awesome small flock of birds.

Barred rocks or Delawares?

Buckeyes. Or something else that is a good brown egg layer with a pea comb and reduced wattles. This helps up north if we want to keep a rooster over winter. The Ameraucana that you carry also has a pea comb, but it lays a green egg. The Wyandotte with its rose comb is good, but the Buckeye seems to be a little bit more active as a forager.

I wouldn't quit carrying what you carry. They're good standard breeds that most people want to see at the feed store.

I'm always glad to see a bin full of various banties since they don't eat much, seem to mix well with large fowl, and add a bit of variety to the mix. Grandma always had a few banties around to use as broody hens.

We are in Washington State and finding Light Brahmas is VERY difficult. Reber's seems to be the only feed store that has them and in very limited quantities. Otherwise we have no problems with RIR's, BO's, Delawares, SS's, etc etc.
