We got 2 BR and a RIR from the feed store. I went back a few days later to look at plants and came home with what were billed as Red Stars...only....they look just like my "RIR". Anyone want to guess at what I have?

The one on the left is the one one that was listed as an RIR. The one on the right is supposed to be the Red Star.

Their feathers look the same, but are lighter.

The one with the black stripe on its head has several other black stripes on it also. Under a wing, on it's belly, on it's back...(Side note - Do you know how long it takes to get 5 chicks to fall asleep in color groups?)

The lightest one on the far right in the pic also has a different comb than any of the other chicks. It has noticeable "teeth" on it, while the other ones combs seem to be more smooth. Might this be a rooster? I tried to get a picture, but the zoom on my camera doesn't really feel like working today.

I think the left two in the bottom pic are the red stars, a good rir chick is actually really light then grows up and becomes extremely dark. Red stars are a cross between rir and usually leghorns so they loook very similar but are usually much lighter when they grown up. I hope this helps!

None of them are red stars. More like rir or new Hampshire. Rex stars/ red sex links have a very distinctive coloring. I have 9. They start with almost white wing feathers and then they slowly start to turn reddish. These look like my new hampshires

These are not Red Stars (which feather in completely differently than your birds). They are either production reds, or hatchery quality RIRs.
