We buy the Sportmix food from our local feedstore. I can get a 50 lb. bag for $15.59, which is good, because our boxer eats about 25 lbs a WEEK!!!

It's 27% protien, he's put on some weight since we've had him on it. We cannot keep a good weight on him, he's so high-energy and always looks painfully thin.

We have had HUGE gas troubles with our Boxer. I mean, clear the room awful stink. Our vet recommended Chlorophyll tablets, we order them from Puritan's Pride - awesome site BTW - and Chico's gas stench is GONE!

The bottle recommends 4 gel caplets a day for an adult, we give him 2, and that's plenty for him. He's about 60-70 lbs.

Wow! Lots of good replies. I will give it a go and see how it goes. I definitely don't want two pooty dogs running around the house. lol

It's not a giant price difference. I can get a 40# bag of Beneful at Sams Club for $23.42. Or a 55# bag of purina dog chow from there for $16.88. The 50# bag of feed store food was around $20. (I got the smaller bag to try it out. A 40# bag of Beneful lasts us for MONTHS at the house and I free choice feed my two little dogs.) But our nearest Sams is over an hour away. With the price of gas, I don't save much by going.

So, I will see how much of it they have to eat to feel satisfied, if they end up pooping a lot or getting tummy troubles out of it. I'll also read the bag to see what's in it.

The main perk for buying a big bag from the feed store for me was it saved me a trip to Sams or Walmart and I was there anyway buying chicken feed. If it turns out to be a nutritional bargain, it's win-win!

Hmph! Seems I was worried for nothing. LOL When I got home, It was a bag of Diamond dog food in my car.

When I go to the feed store, I just pop the trunk. I go inside and tell the girl at the register what I want. I said, "fifty pounds of laying pellets, twenty five pounds of chick starter and twenty pounds of maintenance dog food." and paid her. I get back out to the car and the trunk is closed, so I assume they put everything in there that I asked for. I don't study what kind it is.

I'm not sure that "Diamond" was what I saw when I was looking at stacks of feed, but that's what was in the trunk when I got home.

I hope they will eat it. One of them is the diva type.

Is it just me but I want my dog to poop a lot--fiber. Whether corn, wheat, rice they are the same, carryers for the nutrients.

I would NEVER feed a food to any pet that promises less manure.......give me and my pets fiber.......

My husband works in a dog food factory. This company makes several well known high end brands as well as several "store" generic brands. Here's a little trade secret for y'all...

That high dollar dog food is pretty much the same as the cheap stuff. The difference usually boils down to packaging and color and kibble size/shape.

Shhhhhhhhhhh! It's a secret, though! Don't tell!

Wow! That must be extremely handy! Do you get free dog food? (just curious lol)

The diamond food looks like little cookies! We had a taste test this evening. It is a success.

One of the TV investigative shows did a test to see what dog food (canned) that the dogs preferred. The stinkiest dog food was the hands down choice. The ones the owners picked was picked last by dogs.....shows what we know..
