Feed STORE NIGHTMARE!

Called the humane society...made an anonymous complaint.

Thank you to all who suggested a report be made. Maybe a visit from an animal control officer will get them to change their ways.

Well where to start, employees usually do not take that much of an interest in the running of a business, if you see something that concerns you to the extent of getting upset over, ask to speak to the owner, if not there ask when they will be in and phone them directly. Usually they are appreciative of feedback both positive and negative. Remember to also do this when satisfied with the service.

I am curious why you would contact the animal control and not give your identity? That usually gets your complaint filed in the deep six pile. Usually they do not take anonymous complaints as seriously as someone willing to step up to the plate and back up their concerns with a name.
I see such complaints as useless and obviously not important enough to sign your name to.

I'd get the owner and tell him to his/her face that if they don't straighten up and fly right and do it NOW, you will call animal control and report them for cruelty. Tell them you will be back every day to see if they are treating those birds better and doing what is necessary. I'd hate to have any dealings with them outside the store-the jerks will treat other people with the same lack of respect, you mark my words!

This is a VERY small rural town...its better to contact the authorities anonymously than not at all. The LOCAL Humane Society is less than a MILE from this feed store. The person I spoke with has said others have complained also. I think that if you are selling LIVE animals staff should be trained and at least have some common sense. The owner was not there. I will call them. One of the clerks was younger...but the other 2 older clerks were the ones who acted flippant/walked away. The other customer who came in after me was making a fuss already...so I figured they would GET it. Sad thing was that the clerks were more interested in discussing their schedules than taking care of the ducks. The other customer asked to take the sick dying ones off their hands...and the clerks rolled their eyes and said NO>this happens all the time.
I will be on the phone to the owner ASAP...is there anything else I can do...besides purchasing all the ducks? I hope I have done all that I could...without offending anyone or making them think I did nothing. I did what I was supposed to...notified the clerks and even tried to divert the other customers away so they would not see, contacted humane society, and now left message for the owner.

As I said before I think you need to talk with the owner. I hope he is interested in what you have to say. If he wants to stay in business he will take care of the matter. I always say "Word of mouth is a powerful thing". Many a place has folded because of what people have to say about the place or the way they are treated.

Please, please, please let the owner know. You will be surprised at how much an owner is left "unaware" about certain things, like this and just plain customer service. Call and ask to speak the the owner. This is what I would say, maybe help give you an idea.

"I was in your store the other day and I was looking at the baby ducks and chicks. I noticed there were a few dead, when I mentioned this to your employees they were very VERY rude to me and would not remove the dead animals from the pens. I think you need to speak with your employees about customer service, general manners, and how to PROPERLY care for the animals. What I saw the other day in your store was very very saddening and it reflects very very poorly on you, the owner. I am not the only one who thinks this, there are many other people who have file and talk about these same complaints. I just thought you the owner would like to know what people think of your store because of these events. Thank you and have a good afternoon."

That's all I would say. Like I mentioned before, many times owners are not aware of everything that goes on in their store, no matter how much they would like to know everything. You do not have to give your name or number or anything like that.

Good job reporting them to the humane society, talking directly to the owner would only further encourage the store to take action.
