i have a feeling this question has been asked before, but wuld it be better 2 order 25 chicks from a hatchery or just the couple i need from the feed store???? thanks

The feed store will probably only have the basics: RIR, Barred, Buff, Sexlink. If you want something special, order. It is EASY to split up chicks with friends, or on craigslist, farmers' bulletin, especially if they are something really unique. Anyway, 2 is never enough. Chicks need company, get at least 4 or 5.

Yep 2 is to few, here in Ohio its a law you have to buy 6.

That said, just know what your looking for TSC and some feed stores get the chicks mixed up.

ya.. i have my wonderful flock of 4, planning on adding much more if permits

Ask your feed store where they get their chicks actually....

Our feed store gets 1 order from a hatchery and that is in April. After that all the chicks they have up their are from local hatches and they sell them on consignment.

So I can bring my silkie chicks up there.... recently they had polish chicks for sale.

I wouldn't buy two. If you lose one, you have a problem, because they don't do well alone. Even if you are lucky and they are both healthy, one or more may turn out to be a roo. If you need 2, you can probably make good use of 3 or 4. Two may not even give a dozen eggs a week -- assuming this is for eggs.
