I went to Rural King yesterday for 2 buff orpington pullets. Well, somehow after making two trips I ended up with 23 new chicks?!?!?! I had 5 blue and black orps I had hatched and bought 7 EE pullets, 5 WR pullets, the 2 buff orp pullets, 3 silkies, and 1 EE my bf picked out. It was in an asst. straight run bin and somewhere in between the silkies and standard chicks in size. It is pretty blue chipmunk striped baby. Should be really pretty all grown up. Oh how did this happen.

I have a small order of 6 chicks in with MPC, and I have been avoiding the feed stores like they have a plague! I needed dog food and saw an add that our feed store will get chickens Feb. 17th, so I ran to the feed store on the 15th to get the dog food just so I wouldn't see the chicks.

Sounds like a nice bunch tho! Congratulations and thank you for the pictures!

Thankfully, we have about four other people we are brooding for. So, I will just get to pick out the ones I really like and sell the rest. When we were there on the second trip there were two teenage girls and their dad looking at getting a chick. They had absolutely no knowledge about poultry or how to take care or a chick or chicken. I told them as much as I could. They were probably like "get away from me crazy chicken lady". They were asking the guy that worked there questions and he didn't know the answers so I just would answer while he was standing there with a blanks stare on his face. Then they went to look at puppies, then came back, then to look for chicken wire....I hope they got a puppy instead.

The main feed store shop at got their first batch of chicks this week. And they have several breeds I am getting this year! Several of the other feed stores in the area are also getting in their chicks now too. I intentionally bought feed last weekend before they came in. I think I have enough fed on-hand to get by until I am ready to get my chicks after Apr 1.

Do you think that we are ALL known as the Crazy Chicken Lady to the people we know. I know I am too. LOL

I went to order my babies on Friday and my best friend had to go with me just to make sure I didn't leave the store with a bunch I didn't need.

OMG we are awful. But they are soooo cute....

Unfortunately, my boyfriend doesn't tell me no when it comes to chickens, because then he can use it as leverage when he wants to buy truck or tractor parts.
