can you feed them bread starter? it's grain based and it's full of yeast. They love yogurt full of bacteria, so i'm just wondering about yeast.

thanks

Yes, you can give that to them. Bread yeasts are full of good things for them.

darn! just threw some out this morning as i was refreshing the starter. well, now i know.

Sourdough starter is good stuff for your chickens. If you're familiar with Fermented Feed, it's basically the same thing. Sourdough is flour that is partially digested already, lots of yeasts and probiotic bacteria.

Another use for extra sourdough starter is to make sourdough pancakes. They won't be sweet, like breakfast pancakes, but will be savory...good with a little butter!

How do you feed it to them? Just take a dish full of it and put it in their run?

I have stirred it into their mash and serve it on flat stones in the run or in repurposed hummus containers. Yum.

would probably work well to serve it straight up like yogurt.
