I have question. I have 2 RIR hens 1 laying (she's about 8 mo and 1 not, but close (about 6 mo +). Then I also have 15 chicks (2 months old) mostly RIR, all these birds are together living in the same coop and sharing the same run and they're getting along fine. Eleven of the chicks I'm raising for meat which I'll slaughter in a month or so, 4 of the chicks I'll keep as layers. Because of the lack of room and building materials, I can't separate the chicks from the hens i.e. separate coops & runs and trying to feed them the 2 different types of feed I know I should be is therefor very impractical. So the choice is do I feed all the chickens the grower feed that the chicks should have for a good feed/meat return. Or do I feed all the chickens the layer feed I'd like my layers to have? What would you do? Thanks allot. Tim

Tim,
In your situation, I'd probably feed the grower until you process your birds but I'd also keep some free choice oyster shell available for the layers... once you've processed, if the younger birds are older than 17 week, all can go on layer feed.
