Changing feed to Kalmbach 20% Flock Maker pellets

I'm going to try this and spray it all over the coop and bedding. I have ant problems and DE isn't cutting it. People say you can spray it directly on your birds but I'm hesitant to spray anything directly on animals.

It appears to be the same or pretty close to what folks use on their coops and chickens for mite/lice.

The horse stuff: 0.5% permethrin

Pen and Poultry permethrin spray: 0.5% permethrin

I recently saw the Kalmbach at my local walmart. Back near the cat litter in the pet section. It may be a "super walmart" or some such iteration, not sure. It wasn't as cost effective as what I usually feed so I didn't try it, but it seemed like a decent price. Just putting this out there for anyone who may benefit.

Just an update.. the chickens seem to love the new food. And I've noticed something interesting... their poo is way more consistent. Before I was seeing so much diarrhea and people were telling me it was just cecal but it seemed like a lot. Now I see a fraction of it. I'm just speculating but their digestion seems better.

The watery poop might also be from the heat. Birds tend to drink a lot more water than usual during hot weather and that can lead to watery cecal poops. In any case, i'm glad they're doing well on the new food!

Huh! I honestly hadn't thought of that but makes perfect sense. I'm so new to this and have become obsessed with BYC. I'm learning so much!

I found that PetSmart also carries it online and I’ve never used their auto ship before, so I got the 35% off first auto ship discount and ordered 3 bags. It shipped direct from Kalmbach (the return label was Kalmbach, not PetSmart), and the manufacture date was JULY 23!! Price was about the same as Chewy. I normally love Chewy, but I’m going to stick to just cat/dog food from them from now on.

Good news! The bag finally arrived and I cut it open and it smells delicious. Exactly like pizza!

I mixed my Dumor crumble with some of the Flock Maker and gave it to the girls (and boy). Unsurprisingly, my Barred Rock were the first to check it out and they loved it. I'm sure the others will follow their lead.
Yay! Do you know where it shipped from? Curious if it was same as where mine ships from (which is NE KS warehouse).

I have been feeding my chicks Dumor chick starter/grower crumble feed. They're 16 weeks now and after doing a lot of research, I'm going to stick to 20% protein instead of switching to Layer or All Flock at a lower protein percentage. I have 1 cockerel and 11 pullets. They will have access to oyster shell separate from the feed.

Everyone seems to recommend Kalmbach. They don't carry it at my local TSC but I found it on Chewy. I'll like to switch to pellets to keep the mess down and found the Flock Maker has a pellet option.

Any advice/opinions on this plan?
You don't need to get the all flock stuff unless you have different poultry housed together:)
I would just get the 17% layer pellets if you just have chickens.

Oh that is good to know. I have been using Chewy and every now and then a bag is just a little older than I would like. Nothing horrible but maybe 6 weeks old. I may try PetSmart and see if that works better for me.
