My chickens won't eat bread. Leave it laying around the run and looking tasty to my dogs. (I had to take it out and give it to the dogs, who really weren't interested in the chickens.)

But the hens are loving the frozen lima beans that have been in my freezer since the last kid moved out. A handful of iced baby limas floating in water during the heat of the day seem to be just the thing.

I've been giving the girls a tiny bit of scratch in the eary morning and late evening, midday they get part of an alfalfa flake before I go to work and fresh spinach or leftover fruit when I get home. They love peaches and watermelon best, love spinach but don't seem excited about green leaf lettuce. They will go crazy for shredded cheese, if I ever fell down whil feeding that I think I'd be in trouble!! My husband thinks I'm nuts but I love to spoil them!!

What about Garlic? Minced of course. Excellent treat and the girls go crazy over it. Dont really know what the nutrional value of the garlic is, but during these hot summer months, by birds are tick and flea free! Whoopie!!

Onions and Garlic Benefits
lice, cardiovascular, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory benefits

Issues
Excessive feeding may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and other digestive problems. And prolonged exposure can lead to a blood condition called hemolytic anemia, which is followed by respiratory distress and eventual death. Also it can tend to make eggs have a garlic taste.

Myths
It can be used as a wormer/worm preventative. Doesn't help at all on that really.

Yep, they eat it. My leghorn made a MESS of my oregano pot yesterday. I had to harvest what was left after she got hold of it. It was going to seed anyway but I was trying to save the flowers/seeds for the next planting. She left me with not a flower bud ONE on the whole patch of oregano. I saw her in there with it & didn't think anything about it, figured she was eating grasses and bugs (I dunno if I'm just lucky, but my girls have been very kind to my vegetables by not eating them off the plants and have been just doing a great job at pest control in the garden).

I love the way growing oregano smells in the garden. I planted oregano, mint, and rosemary near my back door so when I'm out on the patio, the smell is just ... heavenly! ('til I get out to the henhouse... then, not so heavenly LOL)

I have had some other projects taking up my time, so I've let the weeds get away from me a bit. I've found that clovers are the girls favorite treat from the yard.
