Feedback on Learning Center "Treats Chart"

We certainly do have Brussels sprouts here in the US, we grow them every year. And ours are so tightly packed that even the cabbage worms can't get through more than the first couple of layers - but boy are those sprouts good when they're cooked!!!! They are, however, part of the cabbage family - and earlier posts call into question the safety of feeding cabbage family foods to our chickens.

I guess we all have to decide what is acceptable for our own flock - it seems that in many cases, moderation is the key.

GREAT JOB BUFF!!! I think it is one of the most helpful things here at BYC and I have used it soooo many times that I can't even tell you how many.. It is a great reference to a newbie when they ask what can I feed my chickies as a treat, I always refer them right to your chart. I have it saved as one of my favorite pages and I go there very often. Thanks so much for all the work that went in to it for all of us new chickie mom's and dad's. Trudy

Great job.
It's very informative.

One thing I didn't notice on the list that
mine love. (sorry if I missed it)- grits.
My chickens love any leftover grits I make.
And I always make extra for them.
(these are cooked of course)

On the canned corn:
My chickens go wild for this unlike any other treat!

Hey Buff I just had to tell you , your Buff girls are absolutely goregous. They are the main reason I got 5 to start my flock with. I absolutely love the personality and disposition of them all.. Your pic's are wonderful and I find myself coming back often just to look at them and hope my girls turn out that beautiful. Trudy

I would like to know if the sunflower seeds are the black oil kind or just the regular kind. Thank you.

Hi guys, I just caught up with the last 8 posts regarding the Treats Chart. I'm going to change it to reflect some of these comments from you guys.

I think a safe age to start introducing foods other than chick starter would be at several weeks. You want to make sure they are ingesting all the complete nutrition feed they need to grow healthy and have all their systems working properly.

Regarding sunflower seeds, both kinds are fine.

Thank you for the feedback,
Buff H.

Im searching for an answer to this question and still havent found it, anyone? And what other than yogurt is good for first treats, mine are 5 weeks.

I know it says that cooked oats are best, but if they have a little quick oats is that allright? My hubby was afraid that they would expand and hurt them

How about cherries and mulberries? My chickens are having so much fun eating the ones that fell to the ground but are they ok? The wild birds are eating them too so I figured it was ok for them.
