Feedback on the current Like system...

I forgot all about that thread..
I does a way better explanation of the old system than I ever could...

I also find it amazing when I read that thread, that the current "like" system is exactly what Nifty tried to avoid having happen in the old system.

I know some think, I am jealous because the newer users have more likes, that is not it. It just makes the systems worthless for evaluating content and a persons knowledge. It also gave feedback on what kind of info was important to others.

If you said something correctly when trying to help a new poultry person. It is because of this old system, I now Casportpony is an "expert" on poultry medical issues. She then has credibility over an opposing treatment given by someone else..

Also the most liked posts were listed in daily, weekly, monthly and all time lists.

It allowed us to see what was trending and what was important to the poultry community at large.

Now we just have a bunch of small cliche like communities in threads people happen to stumble upon. Before we saw/talked to more people on the site than we do now. It has become so incestuous that many threads are just the same people over and over again, to the point we forget which one of the three to four thread we are on.

I understand the need for change, but not all change is always good or better. This one is not.

Off the soap box for a few..

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:View attachment 1205711

Throwing this up in the air. Shoot it down, ignore it, catch it or run like hell.

I get the entire premise of the O.P. from my Oscar the Grouch friend. I have been scratching my head more than my bum lately. Searching for a "meet you half way" solution.

NUMBER ONE.
:oldNo one on here thoroughly explained the original LIKE PROCESS. At least in detail.. for those NOT IN THE KNOW.
So how do you expect traditions to continue if we are not informed of the "Old School Method" of conservation of likes?
Expecting the next generation of members of an ever growing in masses community, to hold on to a standard which doesn't exist NOR has been laid out in detail especially, on a thread that the premise is a rant to save a system that THOUSANDS haven't a clue what you are ranting about. The only thing that I have absorbed is that my buddy Ralphie, quoted that he loves to be hated one minute and the next goes on a rant about new members have more likes than veteran members. I am confused until all the details of the previous like system are published so I can understand the differences.

NUMBER TWO:
:oldLets say that my current comprehension of the prior method of liking something accounted more than a rating system. The newer system that currently appears to be like a popularity contest. Some have thousands of likes v.s. some have fewer likes. Is it the system it's self that is to blame? Or having a larger fan or friend base because of connecting to the community in a positive relations manor?:idunno

NUMBER THREE:
:oldLets say my interpretation of the previous system is as followed. Total speculation of course. If you were to like a post, it would not reflect on a score board? Or you were only allowed to give so many likes in a designated period? I am confused.

I have a solution but it has it's ups and downs. It would discriminate against positive attitude contributors unless they were somehow Grandfathered in with their current standing points.;)

Simply add a new EMOJI in the existing library for a LIKE RESPONSE.

Not necessarily this particular one but take this as a rough draft example.:hmm We already have the :goodpost:and the :yuckyuck emoji's, why not a View attachment 1205734 emoji?

Then, if I am interpreting the old school system was you were you are allowed a limited amounts of bullets in your RATINGS likes pistol, you would be a little more Conservative on your like ammunition.

I am not choosing sides or jumping across a line drawn in the sand. Just trying to come up with a simple solution to make everybody happy. Compromise between disgruntled members against change and the "previous format" ignorant to the fact newbies spreading a positive attitude.
Call me ignorant to the fact until the old system is laid out in detail.
I am em-connie and that was more than 2 cents.
BTW.. Why can't we all just View attachment 1205744 ?
Connie, we all need the group hug emoji!!!! Love it!

Here you go @duluthralphie - validation of your theory that 'likes' will bring about the destruction of society....

He added, "And that means that we need to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in a while, because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever. And that's going to get you to contribute more content, and that's going to get you . . . more likes and comments."

The problem, Parker noted, was that it created "a social-validation feedback loop . . . exactly the kind of thing that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you're exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology."
