My husband insists he has no interest in my chickens, not happy about me having them, doesn't want any more......Spent the ENTIRE weekend figuring out and building this funny little feeder. I showed him a grit feeder a long time ago that was similar and I told him I thought it was kind of interesting

He built this:

He repurposed a bin that someone gave us that held ink (the blue thing) ( we use them for bunkers for the paintball park )
I didn't ask him to build it but he did.

I don't believe him one iota that he isn't somewhat taken by the chickens. He also built a Chicken run, an outdoor next box and plans to build me a bigger coop - Not sure why since our current coop is adequate for the number of chickens we currently own.

Yup - no interest in the chickens. The blue thingy is so that the rain doesn't get into the feed.

my hubby says he has no interest and wants nothing to do with the chickens and yet he is practically drawing up blue prints for the coop! Maybe they just like to build?

Sometimes people may try to read too much into something. My wife has certain interests that don't interest me at all. That doesn't mean I don't support her. He may be doing this for you instead of the chickens?

Mine spent a lot of time building just the right little house for them to roost in. This was inside a large covered run, which he then enlarged to twice the size. Most ot the time he was on his hands and knees with chickens running over his feet and legs (they liked to untie his shoes. Then, Ungrateful me, I told him the roost house wasn't large enough. He said he was through building. So I've been thinking how I could enlarge it, and told him today to be on the lookout for building supplies we could scrounge. He wanted to know what for and when I told him, he said - I've got lots of building supplies. (Guess who'll be down there expanding that house?) Gotta love 'em.

BTW, that's a neat feeder. Give him a big hug.

Yes, He is doing this for me....I really appreciate it. It is funny because I didn't ask him to do it and when I was building the coops he never even tried to help me. It was the first time I used power tools and followed a building plan. I did ask for help then but he insisted it was my thing and he wanted no part in it.

He enjoys collecting eggs. Some days I go out after feeding and watering the chickens and go around to care for the other animals and before I can collect the eggs he has beaten me to it and is already in the house. He does get very excited about a good egg count and I really believes he is enjoying the chickens.

Of course I did learn to play golf, rules of hockey, and play cribbage for him so maybe we are even!

I love that he surprises me with chicken projects.

I was the only one in my family who had any interest in having chickens. My husband was supportive but never really had much to do with the daily care. I have been layed up with a broken ankle for the past 8 weeks. My husband has been doing everything for the chickens. He has really gone above and beyond. I was thinking that I would get rid of them because I didn't want to burden my family. They insisted that I keep them and have done such a great job. My husband now thinks he knows what chicken is laying what egg! He goes to feed and let them out every morning and collect the eggs and TUCK them in every night. I watch him and he sometimes stays out there with them for quite a while. He has also named them...Aggie, Baggie and Maggie, after the 3 stooges girlfriends! I told him that once I get better we will have to have a custody battle over them. I think he will give up custody but it may be tough for a while. How can anyone not love chickens!

Either he cares about supporting your interests, he secretly likes the chickens, or he just likes building things...lol. Very well could be all three combined! My teen son is way to cool for me or my chickens. I'll exclaim over something they've done or their eggs, and he flat out says he doesn't care, that chickens are for eating. But then just the other day he said (in a concerned voice) "Where's Dixie?" when she wasn't with the little group the other day....
