I've had the metal feeder with the top that slides on with holes in it for my 6 chicks. The past two days it's been turned over. Is it because there heads are too big to get in to the bottom? I was going to change to a plastic hanging one soon, but I don't know where to put it yet, outside as there isn't much room in their coop. Is that metal kind just for small chicks?

It is somewhere around that age that ours start to empty the feeder faster than I realize and then walk all over it causing it to tip over. Sounds like they are in need of a bigger one soon though either way.

I took the top part off mine, and still use it as a second feeder! My white rocks tend to eat first, and those that want some feed have to wait in line. The second feeder allows many of them to get a bit to eat while waiting. I pushed mine against the wall, and put a piece of 2x4 butted up against it to keep them from knocking it over. Even my chicks that are ready to start laying, don't move it around! Hope that helps. Oh, and with just 6, I wouldn't worry about buying another feeder. Use what you have, even if it means filling twice a day. Or make you a feeder out of a plastic coffee can, 2 gallon bucket, etc.

Welcome!
