Well I didn't read the label (the large print is in French) at the feed store this morning and came home with 20% grower - I was trying to reduce the protein to around 16% for the hens to grow slowly until they start to lay. What would be best to mix with this feed to reduce the protein levels or should I be concerned about it at this point - I'm new to chickens

. I can use scratch, oats or cracked corn...which would be best? I think I can figure out the proportions once I have the weight of each of the components to get it down a bit. Should I be offering oyster shell or grit if I've switched to grower? Opinions anyone.

Thanks so much,

Merna

Oyster shell is only needed when they start to lay. Don't know what to tell you about diluting protein. Possibly be sure they have extra treats like grass, fruits, and veggies. That would cut down on the ratios. A little scratch will also help. I give scratch more to give them something to do. If your chickens are outside on the ground they can pick up grit as they need it. Grit and oyster shell are 2 different things for 2 different purposes. Hope this helps. Best of Luck
