My chicks are going to be moving in the next week , I was not planning on having a feeder in the coop . Do they need a feeder/ waterer all night ? They seem to be hungry all the time right now . I thought the coop was mainly for sleep and laying, but they eat all night in the brooder it seems.

Are you leaving a light on all night in the brooder?

They do not eat at night..in the wild..they sleep at night.

I left the light on because they still seem like it , they go to it as soon as it's on . Didn't know if it's because rhey were cold or just habit . They are about 4 weeks 1/2

Try a red bulb so the light doesn't keep them awake.
As for your question, they don't need to eat and drink at night. Keeping the food and water in the run will be just fine.

I have a red bulb in the brooder. Just wanted to make sure they didn't need feed at night when they go in coop. Thanks everyone for help!

I'm new to chicks. Mine are almost 5 weeks old and they're in a brooder on my screened in porch. I still have a red heat lamp on since it's still chilly at night. And I have a blanket around and on top of the brooder. Should I start taking their food and water away at night?

Where do you live?
What is your weather like?

Is this brooder predator proof?

I live in Atlanta, GA. Our current temps are all over the place. Sunny & 80 one day the cloudy/rainy/windy40. Nights are 60-40 etc. I have the girls on my second level screened on porch in a brooder so they're safe. I keep a heat lamp and blanket over them. I can see them now and they are all sound asleep... so cute! I just want to know if I need to wean them from food and water at night. I think it's too cold for the red heat

lamp to go away just yet.
