feeding and adding egg laying boxes

I am very new to chickens. I have 3 hens that were hatched 4-10-13. They are doing great outside in their coop. Do I feed them an unlimited food supply or should I be rationing? When do I add things besides chick feed and grit? What are things I should add and not add?

When do I put the egg laying boxes in their coop? How many for 3 hens?

! Pleased you joined us! I give my hens unlimited food - they don't overeat. For three hens I'd only go with one nest box and I'd put it in the coop. Good luck to you!

Hens tend to want the same nest box even if they are all identical. They will either wait in line to use the box or climb on top of the occupant and lay eggs on or around her.
