??? Feeding Black Oil Sunflower seeds ???

Grow your own in a sunny spot! They are pretty easy to grow and cheerful for sure. I like to grow the mammoth grey sunflowers and save the seed heads for feeding wild birds in wintertime.

Here is a pic of the sunflowers in the coop. When these first sprouted I thought they were from the feed, but they are wild sunflowers. The birds like to hang out under their shade. These things blanket the ditches and fields in west central Texas all summer. The seeds were probably brought in by wild birds. These few plants will produce thousands of seeds and with the bare dirt in the coop will produce a whole forest of sunflowers next year.

These are Mexican sunflowers my wife planted alongside the porch, almost 6 ft tall now.

I had a sunflower come up in my herb garden that I'd made with some lovely composted stuff from our old place. The head was nearly 2' across!

None of the seeds produced anything, though. I think the hybrids may be sterile after a generation or two.

It was a great conversation piece.

Man, I guess California really is the most expensive place on earth! I'm paying close to 25 bones for a 50 pound bag of BOSS.

Great photos! We can't have any flowers near the house b/c of the deer. Small things in pots, that's it. Oh, and all the lavender I want.
