feeding bread to chickens

What do you base your answer on?
There are a number of reliable publications that state that treats (including grains and starches) should not account for more than 10 % of a chickens total diet (even worse, most breads do not even qualify as whole grains, but are refined). These 10 % recommendations include articles at http://www.backyardpoultrymag.com/scratch-grains-the-ultimate-winter-chicken-treat/, https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/feeding-chickens-an-introductory-guide, and http://www.rentacoop.com/Chicken-Treats.html. It's up to you of course, whether or not you accept this advice. Either way, I wish you good luck with your flock.

I have Cochins, Frizzles, (bantams) Aracanas and Silkies.. They all love the bread, eat it before their feed...I am using an 18 % starter/grower, scratch, flock raiser, vegetables of all sorts and fruits..from the grocery store toss outs.. Some grocers will sell a box for .50 or so with the greens  they trim. Also use my pulled dDndlion s when I find them in the lawn.
From Georgia, either hot or cold..here.....))

My granddaughter loves candy bars too, but I'm not going to give her one daily, and if she does get one for a treat she'll get it after she eats the stuff that's good for her, not before. Just because they love something doesn't mean they should get too much of it.

It sounds like you are doing a good job of choosing what to give them - greens, starter/grower, etc., but pay closer attention to how much "junk food" they are getting. Every treat they fill up on means they are actually eating less of a critical feeding of what they need. Makes for a cheaper food bill but will lead to paying for stuff to return them to health eventually.
