Feeding button quail - need to jerry rig something!

I currently am going through a 50lb bag every 4-5 months for the ducks (call ducks, don't eat much as they forage as well), and I'm going to order for shipping. Worked it out and 3 hours drive on the highway is more than $40 in gas lol!

I have regular unmedicated chick starter that I add nutritional yeast and brewers yeast in for my ducklings, but game bird starter is impossible to find. I could find turkey starter at 26% but only medicated, and I'd have to drive 3 hours round trip for it. I'm debating just sucking it up and spending the $40 on shipping.

Someone had told me to add bone meal or soy meal to the 23% chick starter, but again, 50 lb bags that is pick up only...

I may need to add a vitamin supplement instead as suggested, and add scrambled eggs to their feed instead.

My opinion go to the feed store it's worth the drive to get the 50 pound bag and additions for the needs. I have buttons in the incubator and today is day 17 and finally we have 2 starting their journey!! I'm so excited its my first hatch so I'm prepared for the worse as well. I went to the local feed store (I'm in the country so it's the norm out here) turkey feed was closest in protein but we started looking into it and it may be the same thing different name but I got a 28% wild game bird feed! I was thrilled but ik still adding a few things. I have the water ready to go with the electrolytes mixed in it marbles in the water dishes as well! I will share that inhave read in multiple places the calcium blocks they sell for parakeets and song birds that hang on the cage and they peck at it are good for them! Good luck let me know how your hatch goes and I hope soon I'll have some new babies!!

I ended up making the drive and bought a 50lb bag of 30% starter lol. The guy at the store told me buttons love spray millet so grabbed a bag of those as well.

I stocked up on duck starter too, since right now I'm feeding chick starter with nutritional yeast mixed in with Poul vite in their water, so this makes it a lot easier!!

5am and 758 am I have 2 hatched!! 2 more have pipped and im so excited so no sleep!! Just FYI I'm day 4 of lockdown so day 18 is our hatch day!

Just an update we have 5 hatched 1 more almost there 3 more pipping!! Its been a long night and day and I'm waiting patiently I have one egg that was different in color like a soft purple tan color! So far 3 all yellow 1 yellow head dark tail and the last one is dark head yellow tail lol my biggest egg is hatching now and im anxious!! Tomorrow ill post new baby pictures after they are dry and I can see them better in the brooder!!
This picture was so sweet I had to share! The one with the wing on the egg itvwas like it was supporting it because that egg hatched shortly after ❤❤
