Feeding chicken meds.....CANT get her to open her mouth!!!!

Hope this helps!!!!

IT does! That is exactly what I did! She clamps as soon as I tried to put a syringe in, so I just took my pinky finger and put it across her beak so it stayed open. The one syringe is fat and she is a bantam so I am a bit worries about making sure it goes down her crop and not her airway! tonight I will measure with the big and feed with the small..so hope my girl forgives me for all this!!!!

Happy to help!
Thank you both for your help!!! I have been successfully getting my girl her meds putting some in food and using the syringe when she doesn't want to eat. She HATES the syringe feeding...but I think she will forgive me

Fingers crossed the meds make her feel better

How is your girl today?

Good morning! Thanks for asking...she Is slowly getting better! She is on day 4 of the meds, so I think they are starting to take affect. We have been giving her lots of TLC

Inside, encouraging her to eat/drink and of course lots of loving! This morning she has been pretty alert and has been nibbling on her wet mash, so all good signs. Her crop is still a little slow, but is starting to resolve itself. When I took her to the vet, she had water in belly they drained, so we may be looking at a bigger health issue, but not sure exactly what yet. Vet wanted her on the meds and feeling better before we purse further. She is a pet...house chicken so doing all we can for her

I am so THANKFUL for the great people here on BYC who have provided info and support for my girl

Glad to hear she is improving a bit.

Does the vet think it is Ascites or Egg Yolk Peritonitis?
Draining does seem to bring some comfort and relief. I hope your vet is able to help you.

Thinking it is the egg yolk peritonitis, but they want to check and make sure there are no tumors or blockage anywhere. My girl is a little over 3 years old, and has never been a consistent layer. She began at a year old...layed every other day for year two..and has layed very little in year 3. She had a heavy molt on October and then stopped for the winter. She has layed about 6 eggs total in May/June. If it is egg yolk peritonitis it would be helpful if she stopped laying all together...she is our pet

so never really worried about getting eggs

Yes, we ADORE her and she is the first chicken! I hatch with my classroom every year and have never kept a chicken/duck/quail until this sweet girl came along!
You also have a great 4th! Will keep you updated! Hoping this treatment helps and we have her with us healthy and happy
