feeding chickens egg shells

I give my birds both their egg shells crushed up and a dish of free choice oyster shells.

I briefly microwave my eggshells, dries out the shells/goop and makes them easy to crush. I mix them into a bowl of sand that I keep in the coop. They eat every last speck.

I was told to always keep your fake eggs in the nest, that way any potential egg eaters pecking at eggs may be easily discouraged and lose interest.

Haven't read all posts but- I fed my chickens eggshells all the time. Still would if it weren't for me not having any on hand.. Crush them up well.. And bake them to kill bacteria, no problems.. People often think feeding them egg or egg shell will matter but truthfully they won't be able to look at goo in a bowl/on the ground or little crushed up white things as a egg.. You probably wouldn't either if you didn't know better.

I would just clean them off real good, maybe throw them in the oven for a minute. I found oyster shell real cheap. and my hens barely eat any at all, so egg shells seem like too much work

I have to say, I couldn't find any oyster shell @ TSC yesterday (no one else was open). So, I crushed my egg shells and fed them to the chickens yesterday. Today, my FIRST egg on the floor eaten.

That's about what I do... Actually, I have been adding the coffee grounds and egg shells to my compost pile. My chickens are not allowed near the compost pile. I plan to use only oyster shell, when mine start to lay.​

better to put them in your compost pile, feed oyster shells much less hassel

After we use the yolk/white we rinse out the egg shells and set them out in the sun to dry out really well. We then crush them and add them to the feed. We've never had a problem with them eating their own eggs.
