Feeding chicks veggies?

I usually wait until they are at least 10 weeks or older. Feeding them when they are still young isn't that safe. They are still growing plus they haven't learned how to swallow small rocks or pieces of dirt, which are also called grits. Grits help them digest food. I would stick with the chick starter feed until they are at least 10 weeks or older.

I don't know about veggie scraps, but I feed finely chopped greens beginning first few days... I'm a believer in adding natural component to diet of quail and pheasant chicks, even though most commercial feeds (of the right type) should satisfy their nutritiona requirements...

I hang a bunch of very leafy but light weeds in the grow out pen and the chicks jump up to devour them. It's the same weeds the hens prefer when they're out roaming.
Easier than chopping things I can just throw to the hens.
Weeds pull up easily.
