My chicks are 2 weeks. I take them outside a few hours a day and let them wonder around. Since they are eating stuff of the ground and such do they need grit?

It depends on if there is appropriately sized particles of hard stone. They probably don't need it but without looking at your soil, I don't know.
Chick grit for that age is like small sand. At about 4 weeks they need something larger.

Edited for clarity.

I have read that if they are allowed outside now and again they don't need grit, but I like to give them clumps of grass with the soil still attached to it as well. They really enjoy it, and that serves as grit too. I personally have never given my chicks commercial grit.

I think I wrote my response in a manner that didn't imply what I meant. I meant they probably don't need grit at that age if having access to soil.
Whenever I have provided grit, they consumed it voraciously. It's cheap and they won't overeat it so it doesn't hurt to provide it.
