feeding cooked egg yolks to chickens

My girls love cooked eggs! When I have too many or for just a treat I will hard fry or boil them. They attack them!

Before I say anything else, I should clarify that I don't know the answer.

We feed most of our yolks back to the chickens. Recently, I have asked the same question as you.

The actual risk, from a medical perspective, is for a condition called "fatty liver". It happens to people who eat a high fat diet or are overweight. It is what happens to ducks or geese who are force fed and raised for foie gras. As the condition advances, the liver begins to fail.

For the ducks and geese that are unfortunately put through this, they are killed before the disease progresses. My concern with feeding the chickens so much of their yolks is that they are getting a very high fat diet.

I have seen a significant drop-off in egg production recently and the birds are only 1.5 years old. Maybe it's normal. But I am concerned that it might be a result of decreased health due to fatty liver.

Someone somewhere probably knows the answer to this. Just not sure where to look to find it.

ADDENDUM: Here is a description of the condition. It is enough for me to stop feeding yolks to the chickens.
