In the scraps I feed the young chickens (not yet laying) I have been including egg shells. Will this promote egg eating behavior when they start laying?
Should I stop doing this now in hopes they forget about how yummy the shells taste?

As long as they are crushed up small enough they wont make the connection.Feed my layers shells all the time.

I wouldn't feed egg shells to chickens that are not yet laying--they do not need the extra calcium. When they are laying it is okay, but grind them up finely as the previous person said.

I save the egg shells I use when cooking and give them to the chickens. I just toss them into the run and step on them to crush them. I've never had problems.

If I find an egg that cracked in the nest, I will throw it on the ground to smash it open for them. The chickens run like mad to gobble them up.
