Feeding egg shells to hens?

Quote:
I heard that feeding whole eggs to the chickens might encourage them to start eating the eggs they lay. We sell most of our eggs to people at my work place, and suprising eat very few ourselves, but i don't feed eggs back to the chickens unless they are crushed.

This may sound silly but I don't want my chickens to eat an egg that LOOKS like an egg. Don't want to start any bad habits!

No offense...but you heard wrong. Been feeding eggs back to chickens since I was 10...I'm 45 now and I haven't had an egg eater in my flocks yet. There are many on this forum who feed bum eggs back to the flock without problems.

I crush the eggshells and cook <scramble or scramble> the eggs for my Ladies. I do not want them to associate the YUMMMY TREATS!!! with Hey, I laid something that looked just like the yummy treats, so therefore it= YUMMY TREAT.

Never had an issue egg eating in all the time I have had the Ladies. They have plenty of eggs fed back to them, but not in a shape they associate with their own eggs. They are smart enough to recognize the shape of the treats, so I really don't want to start a not good habit in my flock.

Now, I might be wrong in my thoughts, but hey, it works for me
